Effects of elicitation on alkaloid accumulation and different enzymes in Catharanthus roseus cell suspension cultures

We chose four different units of elicitor to modulate the alkaloid production, and measure the enzyme using microplate reader. The three units of elicitors are 1. Inhibitor to ABC transporter: verapamil, glibenclamide, glipizide, probenecid, N,N-dicyclohexylcarbodiimide(DCCD); 2. Harmon: IAA, methyjasmonate (MeJA); 3. Anti-fungal drug: ketoconazol. MeJA and verapamil increased the alstonin and serpentine significantly. We also found the relation between the elicitor, enzyme and alkaloid by multivariate analysis. Peroxidase involved in the biosynthesis of alstoine and serpentine, MeJA induced the gene encoding the peroxidase.
